The Benefits of Passive Advertising

Welcome, my apologies, have been “off blog” since the holidays, still getting my new year together I guess!  One of my new committments this year with the help of a business coach is sticking to my cold calling plan.  As I thought about how much I dread this action, it occured to me that it is an ACTIVE form of advertising while what I do is PASSIVE advertising. 

Passive is defined as the opposite of active.  Sounds lovely to me! I mean I like the idea of making one decision, one action and letting it out into the universe to have what I would call a ripple effect.  Many things are like this if you think about it.  Praise for a job well done gets around fast, critiscm even faster!

The benefits of passive advertising are neverending.  When you hand out a business card, that business card can travel to many peoples hands without you knowing it until you get a call from a stranger right?  What about a pen or a sticker or a magnet that has your company logo on it.  We can almost cross over the line into subliminal.  I really hope every time one of my clients cuts their pizza (stats show weekly in America) with the imprinted cutter I gave them, they are subliminally thinking of me! HA!  You can also utilize passive advertising to reach out to clients that you haven’t heard from in a while.  What better calling card to visit a past client than a gift of a nice pen, coffee mug, custom chocolates?  So promotional products and print products pay for themselves in a short amount of time for sure!

I would almost say that with apparel items, you get a 2 for 1!  The employee or customer that you give that super sweet logoed hat to feels a boost as it is a gift so they wear it everywhere.  You get that benefit, plus a walking billboard for quite some time. Not bad for a $10 hat right?  (Plus its a tax write off-forgot about that!)
